Stereotypes and Stereotyping in Invisble Man :: Invisible Man Essays

Powerful Stereotypes in Invisble Man       Ellison creates many stereotypes of African Americans of his time. He uses this to bring less informed readers to visit certain characters motives, thoughts, and reasoning. By using each personality of an African American in extremes, Ellison adds passion to the novel, a passion that would not be there if he would let individualism into his characters. Individualism, or lack there of is also significant to the novel. It supports his view of an anti-racial America, because by using stereotypes he makes his characters racial these are the characters that the Americans misunderstand and abominate.   Dr. Bledsoe is the uninventive submissive African American. He seemingly is peremptory, but this is just a façade. Though all of the African Americans in his community hold him in a high regard, he has no such respect in the white-mans world. College students tell stories about how when in the north, he is calle d Mr. Doctor Bledsoe. Yet in his letter turn to to Mr. Emerson, he ended the letter with, I am your humble servant. It is this cowardly submission that Bledsoe uses to gain power. He enjoys what little power he has in the African American community, so much in fact that he says that he would rather see every black man in the country lynched than deliver up his power.   Ras the Exhorter (later the Destroyer) is the stereotypical black supremacist. One of the most memorable characters to me, Ras battles for social equality literally. Literally meaning prince in one of Ethiopias languages and mimicking the just of Ra, the Egyptian sun God, Ras encompasses the stereotypical black-nationalist. By using these allusions, Ellison is establishing the characters personality even before he acts. Rass philosophy, one that was unorthodox at the time of publishing, is that blacks should dangle off oppression and prejudice by destroying the ability of white men to control them . This inevitably leads to violence. This anti-segregation from blacks was unheard of.   These two offer the reader a instinct of variety and contrast. Both causes conflict with the Invisible Man, yet they also offer an inspiration and wisdom. Bledsoe taught him to not be so naïve, even to his own people.

Feminine Perspective within Othello :: Othello essays

Feminine Perspective within Othello In William Shakespe atomic number 18s tragic drama Othello, the male characters faraway outnumber the female ones. This may tend to cause the feminine viewpoint to be shortchanged. Lets not let that happen by rumination of same in this essay. In the essay Wit and Witchcraft an Approach to Othello Robert B. Heilman discusses involvement in the play by Emilia, the wife of Iago Emilias weft up the handkerchief helps advance the action by contributing to Iagos deception of Othello, but it is also relevant to her character and to Shakespeares conception of the modes of wifelike devotion and marital relationship (not to mention its relations by contrast with actions of Desdemona and Bianca and of Emilia herself later). (330) It was Emilias gift of the decorated kerchief to her husband that set up Desdemona for murder. Helen Gardner in Othello A Tragedy of Beauty and Fortune talks of Emilias outlook on things Emilias silence while her lady o f pleasure lived is fully explicable in terms of her character. She shares with her husband the generalizing trick and is well used to domestic scenes. The jealous, she knows, are not ever jealous for the cause nevertheless jealous for they are jealous. If it was not the handkerchief it would be something else. Why disobey her husband and risk his fury? It would not do any good. This is what men are like. But Desdemona dead sweeps away all such generalities and all caution. At this sight, Emilia though the world is a huge thing honors that there is a thing she will not do for it. By her heroic disregard for death she gives the only proof there can be of Desdemonas whiteness the testimony of faith. For falseness can be proved, innocence can only be believed. Faith, not evidence, begets faith. (145) At the outset of the play only the male eyeshot is given Iago persuades the rejected suitor of Desdemona, Roderigo, to accompany him to the home of Brabantio, Desdemonas father, i n the middle of the night. Once there the two awaken the senator with loud shouts about his young ladys elopement with Othello. In response to the noise and Iagos vulgar descriptions of Desdemonas involvement with the general, Brabantio arises from bed. With Roderigos help, he gathers a search party to go and find Desdemona and bring her home.

Free Julius Caesar Essays: Expediency vs. Ideology :: Julius Caesar Essays

Expediency vs. Ideology in Julius Caesar Expediency is the concept of doing something fitting, practical, useful, and advisable. It is the suitable means to accomplish an end. Ideology is the body of beliefs or ideas of any person or group. These two words, if put together, clash. It is a battle between what is really best between what one thinks and what needs to be done. An excellent example of this clash is in Shakespeares Julius Caesar. Was the finish of Caesar something that was done pragmatically or was it an action taken because of certain convictions, an ideology? Was Caesars death practical? Would it bring about substantiative change for Roman society? The main reason that the conspirators gave for their action was that if Caesar were crowned king, he would become a tyrant, an oppressor of the Roman people. It was done in the best interests of the Republic. straight off that he was dead, Caesar could never be a tyrant and the Romans could live in freedom. His murde r, therefore, was necessary. Brutus and Cassius took it upon themselves to be the operative forces to kill Caesar. These were expedient men who cared only for Rome. Or were they? The discard side to being practical and doing what is best for others is taking action because of what one thinks needs to be done and/or actually doing it for selfish reasons. Julius Caesars death also can be considered an ideological decision. In I, ii, ll. 35-180, Cassius brings forth the issue that he thought Brutus could be as good a ruler as Caesar. Why does Cassius bring this up? What does he get from saying this? One might say that these were encouraging words from one friend to another. However, these words work as a catalyst for Brutus plan to murder Caesar. Among the conspirators, did they have any motives behind their participation in Caesars murder?

Historical Background of Chinese Schools in Malaysia

History of Chinese theme type school Starting out early in the nineteenth century, the Chinese society has already made a stand on sustaining their manner of speaking and culture to the localise that they decided to request for their own Chinese national type school. Realizing that this could cause an up stir in racism in Malaysia, still the Chinese society in Malaysia strongly believed in preserving the Chinese language among the Chinese youths. In the beginning, they were asked to give up their properties to be incorporated with the National School system, which for the Chinese caused an uproar but after negotiating a deal was made and they hold to instead become National character schools. Through this system, the government could only be in charge of the school curriculum and teaching personal objet dart the buildings still belonged to the schools. During this time, primary schools were allowed to keep Chinese as the medium in the schools and their book but for Secondary scho ols they were required to switch to English-medium schools.More than 60 schools changed to National Type schools, including the famous Chung Ling High School, Penang Chinese Girls School, Jit Sin High School and Ave Maria Convent High School, Sam Tet High School. Even though according to the proposition that most subjects are allowed to use the medium of English, the teaching and learning of Mandrin remained compulsory in these schools, with most of them dedicating at least one seventh to one fifth part of their teaching time per week to Mandrin studies.Even with all the compromising the proposal was looked at as almost impossible for a tad of them, making more or less of some of the Chinese schools turn to become private soaring schools or Chinese high schools as they were called later on. During the 1960s and 70s this concept slowly turned below the lime light making many of the National Type schools reopen their independent high school branch. The numbers kept increasing to a point where the political situation made it difficult to set up additional independent Chinese high schools. There are 60 independent Chinese high schools in Malaysia, including Foon Yew High School which is the largest secondary school in Malaysia with over 7000 students. Foon Yew High School was the first school to object and decline the governments proposal, as well as the first high school to have a branch campus (located in Kulai) National-type Secondary Schools are called Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools (MICSS) which came into being after the Education Act 1961, determined to use their mother tongue to preserve the Malaysian Chinese culture. In 1973, Dong Jiao Zong formed the MICSS running(a) Committee, to develop the examination and syllabus of the 60 Independent Schools in Malaysia. No name woman by Maxine Hong Kingston Essay

No name woman, by Maxine Hong Kingston, exposed the harsh culture of the Chinese in the 1920s. Women were treated as breeders and slaves to their husbands. The unborn is the narrators aunty whom she never had the chance to meet. The mother tells the story while her daughter listens to the devastating suicide of her aunt. The narrator of the story struggles to find the morals of her deceased aunt she attempts to release and understand the Chinese culture in the 1920s versus the American culture she currently give ways in. Chinese culture in the 20s has always been a patriarchal society. The men are completely dominant they provide money and shelter for the women and children. Women, on the other hand, do not have any powerfulness in decision-making, women in the old China did not choose (825). They had no say in who their husband would be or how many children they had to have. When they were commanded to do a chore or to cook they were forced to only follow their husbands wishes. During the adolescent age, brothers and sisters, newly men and women, had to efface their sexual color and reach plain miens (828).Everyone in the Chinese society looked the same there was no manipulate-up or trendy hairstyles to make a unique appearance. The hair moldiness be pulled up in a bun when young and when they married, women could cut their hair. A common characteristic of the Chinese was the temptation to grab attention by speaking loudly or shouting at family gatherings (828). The narrator even admits her mother still shouts in the library or other quiet areas. The version from Chinese culture to Chinese-American culture has been different for her family. In the 1970s the first American generations have had to figure out the invisible world the emigrants built most her childhood in solid America (824). The narrator feels like her immediate family is not adjusting to the American culture effectively. The narrators family has a secret. Her aunt became a disgrace to thei r family and village in China. Her mother states, your sky pilot has all brothers because it is as if she had never been born (823). In the Chinese culture, committing sexual relations outside of sum is considered dishonoring your familys name.Family values are very important and committing infidelity equals banishment from the village. When the narrators aunt becomes pregnant, and her husband had been away for historic period, no one verbalize anything. They did not discuss it (823). The father of the baby was unknown, but, the family did not even attempt to find him. Not only did the aunt sin, but her baby would forever live in sin because of her mothers actions. In the Chinese culture, their past stayed with them forever they couldnt start over like the Japanese and become a Samurais or Geishas (826).They were forced to the outcast table during family feasts and were basically shunned. On top of becoming impregnated by another man, the aunt had a daughter which, to have a dau ghter in starvation time was a waste enough (825). Producing a male was more beneficial to the village and carrying on the family name. Obedience is the of import factor in this story. The dominance of the male required, she obey him, she always did what she was told (825). Therefore, the chain reaction occurred, the aunt became pregnant and cursed the village. Even throughout childbirth she never revealed the fathers identity.Just hours before she delivered, the village ransacked and raided her home. They screamed, Look what youve done. Youve killed us. Ghost Dead ghost. Youve never been born (830). This disgrace only left her to commit suicide with her child. If she decided to stay in this world she would forever be an outcast and her daughter would be treated as a living curse. Even though she took her and her childs life, infidelity had already harmed the village, the waves of consequences would return unpredictable, sometimes in disguise to hurt her (830). The damage was alrea dy done. She disrespected her familys name. Also, the village had to suffer penalties from her actions. They intend the breaking of the village code would set a curse on them. Her mother voiced this particular story to ensure her daughter does not make the same mistake. Even though they are now experiencing Chinese-American culture, the Chinese culture still remains dominant in their family. Her aunt sinned over 50 years ago when this story was told however, the ramifications are still affecting her family. This story was mentioned to prevent another family crisis and to keep the family name free of sin.

It has all the qualities of mystery, history, detective story and tragedy. It is the delight of the psycho-analyst.

Reflection Paper on New Testament’s Fulfillment of Some Promises

In fulfillment of prophesies in the Old Testament, savior demonstrated the divine execution of nearly sensually expected events. One would need to understand that prophesies were actually not perfectly fulfilled only if a cross examination is done with a normal hu objet dart scope of reasoning. These things argon basically for those who have an in-depth insight into the divinity of supernatural. For example, the inquisition for a home is a placement for dominance of Jesus messages in the heart and thoughts of men to always act and conduct themselves according to the principles of the father. This is further exemplified in the disciples behavior in Antioch when their characters were termed Christ-like. In the fulfillment of a search for a physical home, it is expected that the chasing away of the marketers from the temple would precede the establishment of a home. I think the scripture equally emphasized that the son of man has no place to lay his head even while birds do. It is th e preparation for a temple devoid of corrupt market practices, theft and other damned events. The temple is meant for believers to come around and observe the Sabbath routine, to read the books of the law in order to bring men to God the more(prenominal)(prenominal).Truly Jesus had no home, preaching of evangel from place to place, wandering from town to town, preaching the kingdom of God and the readiness of men for his second overture after crucification and resurrection. Jesus is not of this world, he came on assignment. I think he clamors to recruit men to believe in the Kingdom of God. He finds rest or fulfillment in seeing teaming form of people believe through the demonstration of great miracles and healings of diseases. He stressed that believers are those who keep his words, these ones he called his people. Since one finds home among his people, it means irrespective of physical homelessness, one is secured within a virtual home among his followers. When Jesus said he would reconstruct the works of years in three days this raised(a) a lot of troubles in their mind and courageously they asked how this would be possible. Though Jesus believed that only sign and wonder could make them believe, he placed more emphasis on the divine by further preaching the summary resurrection after three days of death from the sinful nature of man. The death intend the purification of believers and the reconciliation to God. I think he eschewed the physical explanation since that was not his focus and besides to further enrich them with wonders that initiated deep thirst for more conviction on him being the Son of man. Thus, after his resurrection, the disciples remembered the statement of building the temple within three days. This does not only led to strengthening of their faith, they also go all out preaching the good news of what the strongly believe in, even to the point of death. Concerning the relationship between valet de chambreity and God, humans are e xpected to reason in the divine as only this can make man comprehend the scripture. There is a need for reconciliation of humans blemish flesh to God to ease communication flow at every junction of our life when we need God. His death body on the cross has done this but only for the believers that have permitted Jesus to have a place in their hearts.Jesus changed the destiny of the worlds through his rising (resurrection) from death in addition to signs and wonders performed. When the believers confirmed the prophesies that had gone ahead of the event with the actual event taking place at ages interval, believing is no more an insecurity discover for deep thinking ones. The persuasive gospel of eye witnesses who were his disciples and later became the Apostles is sufficient to re-oriented the destiny of the world in preparation for the coming end the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Competitive relationship between the Maxis berhad and other companies is strong. Therefore, the Maxis Berhad have to aware of the actions of others and make the most suitable decision based on the decision of other company. Thus, we will recommend that the Maxis Berh ad could implement the market research and analysis system to investigate their competitors as well as deploy the job costing system to control and minimize the cost of production, and indirectly, they could adjust and lower their pricing in order to gain the competitive advantage.(b) Malicious EmailsThe other threat is the malicious emails. In this case, we would recommend that the Maxis Berhad could create their own unique symbol or signature on the email they sent to the customers in the B2C ecommerce transaction in order to differentiate it with the malicious emails.(c) Identity Theft and Internet FraudsThe identity thief and internet fraud is also one of the threats the Maxis Berhad faces. In our opinion, the company could deploy the information security management system (ISMS) to provide an additional protection on the company information to make it secure.(d) Blended AttacksThe other threat is the unify attack. In order to manage the blended attack, we will recommend that t he Maxis Berhad should master the urge network administrators to make it more vigilant about patch management, employ server software to detect the malware and keep update and using the firewall products.(e) Delivery RiskThe delivery risk is also a threat the Maxis Berhad needs to concern about. In our opinion, the Maxis Berhad should implement the service delivery risk management (SDRM) to enable the Maxis having a better arrest on their client profitability, cost and revenue drivers, and exception management and governance process.Part 6 ratiocinationIn the beginning, our group decide to choose Maxis Berhad based the companys performance and its achievement.
